Giants could pull off shocking reunion in 2025 that nobody saw coming

It's not often that a team parts ways with some of their most productive and superstar players more than once in a matter of years, but that's the unfortunate reality of what the Giants have done. It began with the trade of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in 2019, following a tumultuous end to his New York tenure, and was further marked by the failure to extend running back Saquon Barkley last offseason.

Their departures created an adverse ripple effect on the offense, and in some ways, they are still impacting the offense today. That is especially the case with Barkley, who went on to break multiple records with the Eagles and ended the season with a Super Bowl victory.

But besides following an unheard-of pattern of moving on from superstars, the Giants have an opportunity to right a former wrong by doing something not often seen, either: reuniting with one of those they let go of.

The Giants could walk down memory lane by bringing back Odell Beckham Jr. for one more season

That's the suggestion from CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin regarding Beckham's future in the NFL, as he believes the Giants are a suitable team for him to play for in 2025.

Because the 32-year-old is hoping to continue his playing career for at least another season, there are a few teams that analysts believe should be interested, with some being better fits for Beckham than others. The Giants are one of those teams, according to Benjamin, even more so after the receiver has teased a reunion in recent days.

"Besides Beckham and a handful of current Giants teasing the possibility of a reunion tour, this actually makes some sense. "OBJ" is still a fan favorite among contingents of Giants faithful for the spunky playmaking that made him an NFL phenom at the start of his career. And some added receiver depth couldn't hurt behind returning starters Nabers and Darius Slayton.

If coach Brian Daboll is trying to squeeze what he can out of Russell Wilson before turning to Jaxson Dart under center, Beckham registers as a decent low-risk gamble to give New York another set of proven hands off the bench."

Given that the Giants have proven to be willing to take chances on players many have decided are past their prime, Benjamin's point about Beckham returning to where his career got started makes a lot more sense.

At the same time, however, he hasn't played a full season in six years due to injury, and as a result, has played on four different teams throughout that time. That creates a lot of risk for the Giants, even if it could be a relatively inexpensive one, with the hope that Beckham can prove he can still be a viable player despite seemingly proving the opposite as recently as last year.

That might be a risk the Giants are willing to take, given who we're talking about, and the fact that they already have a packed receiver room led by Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton. It would take a lot of pressure off Beckham to be a star player on their offense, which would be unfamiliar territory for the veteran in the Giants' system.

It could be deemed a risk worth taking, even if only for the feel-good reaction that might come from it. However, it could also be another mistake, given Beckham's recent performance, which might render it unworthy of a try, regardless.
