A lot is going to be made about how terribly the New York Giants played the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, and it’s warranted. Apparently, they just forgot to show up to their sludgefest of a home opener at MetLife Stadium, with a final score of 22-9.
The offense put up 281 yards of total offense, with one player accounting for nearly half of those yards. Don’t look now, but rookie running back Cam Skattebo is starting to look like a stud. The former Arizona State Heisman finalist looked as advertised in the loss, racking up 121 scrimmage yards (61 rushing and 60 receiving), while adding Big Blue’s only touchdown of the game on the ground.
He’s officially going streaking — going back-to-back games finding the end zone. The 23-year-old budding star was the lone offensive bright spot in an otherwise dark pit of despair.
Giants waste Cam Skattebo's evisceration of Chiefs defense on primetime
Skatt is built like a fire hydrant. He runs like one, too... if fire hydrants had legs. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound back earned every single one of his yards, taking every Chiefs defender head-on. There’s a reason he earned an Angry Runs scepter from NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt in Week 1. And he’s just getting started.
Fans can tell when Skattebo gets the ball because he usually leaves a wake of defenders in his path. Look no further than his 13-yard rushing touchdown, where he fought through a pair of tackles to Superman his way for six:

And if that wasn't impressive enough for you, his backflip-into-surfing-pose touchdown celebration afterward was objectively electric.
It’s still amazing that he lasted until the 105th pick of the 2025 draft. Talk about highway robbery. And with each passing week, he’s just getting better. The more touches he gets, the better the offense looks. Feed him.
It’s unclear whether he’ll continue to get the workload he did Sunday night. Big Blue lost Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the first quarter with a shoulder injury on a TV-rocking hit during a three-yard catch and run. He immediately went to the locker room to get X-rays and was listed as questionable to return, but he never did.
With Tracy’s status up in the air and Skattebo’s primetime dominance on full display, Giants fans might finally have someone other than Malik Nabers to be excited about on this offense. In an otherwise terrible offensive performance, at least Big Blue Nation has a future star in the making with Cam Skattebo, and based on what we’ve seen so far, they may have just found an absolute steal.
