Considering that Jordan Love has helped the Green Bay Packers to three consecutive playoff berths, some New York Giants fans might be quite pleased to hear a Love comparison for Jaxson Dart.
Things aren’t that simple, at least not to ESPN’s Ben Solak. In a recent piece previewing the four second-year starting quarterbacks, Solak said that Dart must prioritize working on his consistency. Solak then argued that Love found himself in a similar situation entering last season, though that was his third year starting in Green Bay.
“Dart is a good physical talent for the position, but he isn’t big enough or explosive enough to really be a danger when pressured — he isn’t Drake Maye or Josh Allen,” Solak wrote. “He can do enough, but he cannot build the entire ship out of spectacular escapes or challenging throws.”
Giants fans won’t be pleased with two other names that Solak invoked, and neither one is anywhere close to Love’s caliber. Instead, Solak specifically noted Zach Wilson and Anthony Richardson Sr.
“The list of quarterbacks with rampant inconsistency who never learned how to do the quiet work of keeping easy plays easy is unfortunately quite long,” Solak wrote.
ESPN’s Jaxson Dart analysis is a refreshing take
The national media has been hard on Dart and his physical playstyle throughout the offseason, with CBS Sports frequently piling on and questioning his long-term viability as a starting quarterback.
So for Giants fans, this is nothing new. And in fairness to Solak, he combined tape and advanced statistics rather than solely relying on the latter — or, as others have done this summer, citing misleading statistics to paint an anti-Giants narrative.
But credit to Solak for at least expressing some optimism about Dart’s potential. He didn’t focus exclusively on the negative to demean both Dart and the Giants for the sake of clicks. There was legitimate analysis involved.
As for mentioning Wilson and Richardson, keep in mind that Dart had by far the best rookie season of the trio. Dart also lacks the maturity and work ethic issues that have plagued Richardson dating back to his college days.
For now, Dart continues to give Giants fans reason to be excited, and John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen have quickly proven they’re all-in on the Ole Miss product. But if we’re to see how Dart really compares to Love, we’ll need to wait a bit; the Giants and Packers don’t meet during the 2026 regular season.
