Giants fans just sent a clear message about Matt Nagy running the offense

No Nagy-nagging here.

Give it up to Giants fans, because the level-headed response to new head coach John Harbaugh hiring Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator was honestly impressive. There was a moment where rioting in the streets of New York wasn’t completely out of the realm of possibility, but cooler heads prevailed.

Shortly after the news broke, I put up a poll on social media asking Big Blue Nation to chime in on how they felt about the Nagy hire. To my surprise, the Todd Monken fallback plan... we'll call it D, was actually quite well received, earning the majority of the votes:

To say I was expecting a lot worse would be a massive understatement. But 63 votes giving the thumbs up on the OC decision all but confirms Giants fans are buying into Harby’s vision, and you honestly couldn’t ask for a better start for the new regime.

Giants fans are choosing to trust John Harbaugh on Matt Nagy

The only way this is going to work is if we collectively see Harbaugh's vision through to the end. He came in to bring this downtrodden team back to relevance, and we should give him that chance without jumping down his throat every step of the way. Would it have been nice to bring in Monken, Kliff Kingsbury, Davis Webb, or Charlie Weis Jr? Of course. But couch GMs don't make the decisions.

There is nothing everyone else knows that Harbaugh doesn't. The 47-year-old's struggles working with young quarterbacks in the past are well documented, but that still didn't deter Big Blue's leader from making the call.

Harby didn’t walk into this job blind. Every move he’s made so far points to restoring credibility. The staff is full of experienced coaches who’ve been around the block and worked with some star players. That stuff matters for franchise QB Jaxson Dart, who doesn’t need a mad scientist OC right now -- maybe save that for the quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator.

It’s not a sexy hire, and it’s not the splash fans were dreaming about, but it’s also not an objective disaster. Harbaugh clearly believes Dart is good enough to survive this pairing and grow anyway. If the 63-year-old didn’t believe in No. 6, there’s no chance he would hand his development to a coordinator with Nagy’s résumé and shrug it off.

Speaking of his resume, we talk about it as if he didn't play an integral part in developing Patrick Mahomes. Stay around the league long enough, and you're sure to find positives and negatives.

The message from the fanbase was clear and fair: we’ll give Harbaugh the runway, but this better work. And honestly, it’s the healthiest place this suffering lot has been in years.
