New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has a building wave of momentum carrying him into the 2026 season, and we're not here to put an end to it.
Dart was electric as a rookie, making an impact that went beyond the stat sheet for the G-Men. With an improved offensive line in front of him and a new system in place, all signs point to a breakout in his second season.
Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports recently ranked every starting quarterback in the NFL. He put Dart 18th overall, in the "Promising Prospects" tier. With a strong start to the season, the young Giants star could quickly shoot up the rankings, even breaking into top-ten QB discussions.
Jaxson Dart is two Giants wins away from solidifying his breakout status
The "Sophomore Slump" is a well-known trend for NFL passers. Many quarterbacks, after strong rookie campaigns, take a step back in their second year.
Expectations are different for Dart. His dynamic rookie tape already has analysts buying into a major leap in his second season.
If the young quarterback is going to put together a breakout season and force himself into top-ten conversations, it will have to start with strong performances in the Giants' first two games.
New York starts the season with a home game against their NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys. After improving their defense over the offseason, the Cowboys are expected to fight for a playoff spot. This game could quickly turn into a shootout between Dart and Dak Prescott.
Next, the Giants travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams on Monday Night Football. Matthew Stafford and his squad are currently Super Bowl favorites after going all-in this offseason. Lining up across from Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie and trying to keep pace with Stafford's supercharged offense, Dart will have no time to ease into the season.
It's easy to see how the first two weeks of the campaign could quickly spiral into a disaster for the young QB. There will be plenty of eyes on both games, and Dart will hear about it if he underperforms.
But if he can lead the Giants to back-to-back wins to start the season, there will be no containing his breakout hype. Outdueling both Prescott and Stafford would not only push Dart up quarterback rankings, it would solidify him as one of the rising stars of the NFL.
