The boys from the Meadowlands are doing their best to put the "new" in New York Giants. That’s right, it’s officially a new era in East Rutherford. Russell Wilson headlines a completely revamped quarterback room that now includes the likes of Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart.
Winston was brought in to be a locker-room guy — mission already accomplished — and Dart was drafted to eventually become the future of the franchise. Burning the old QB room and watching the new one rise like a phoenix from its ashes was always Joe Schoen’s top offseason priority. He did say he’d turn over every stone to do it.

After doing so, the plan was for the 22-year-old to sit and develop behind the vets until he was ready. Brian Daboll has stuck to that plan religiously, so it’s not changing anytime soon... or is it? Dart’s been having an impressive training camp, and the excitement surrounding him is tangible. Fans are eager to see him start, but Schoen offered a more nuanced stance when asked about the rookie’s timeline.
Joe Schoen reveals ideal timeline for Jaxson Dart to take over
Appearing on ESPN Radio with host Dave Rothenberg and guest host Jordan Raanan Wednesday morning, Schoen talked shop about the new and improved QB room and what his ultimate dream scenario looks like for the 2025 season.
He started off hot with the bluntest possible answer: “Win a lot of games is the perfect scenario."
He even dismissed any preconceived timeline and acknowledged how Wilson has been performing at camp, "We’re not going to put a timeframe on it. Russ has had a really good spring.” And he has. His connection with Malik Nabers has been electric. His moonball has been on display early and often at camp, but it still hasn't completely silenced the "what about Dart" crowd.
Dart's been good in his own right. Aside from a rocky start to camp, he's bounced back in a big way and has made some huge strides.
Even the GM admitted as much in his own way:
"Dart has had a really good two weeks out here; you could see the game slow down for him. We’re really excited for Russ, and when it’s Dart’s time, we’ll have a conversation and make the decision.”
And while that sounds great over the radio, the truth of the matter is the Giants are likely going to have a very difficult time winning "a lot of games." This team is heading into the season with the toughest strength of schedule, in an absolutely loaded NFC East. It’s a brutal reality, but one they’ll have to face head-on.
How long a leash Russ gets will determine Dart's timeline. If the team comes out of the gates struggling, fans, analysts, players, and execs will start calling for the rookie instantly. It'll be near-impossible to ignore the noise.
Schoen's officially on the hot seat entering 2025. So is Dabs. The pair cannot afford to be patient. However, that doesn't publicly appear to be at the forefront of the GM's mindset right now. For now, it's hope his future Hall of Fame quarterback turns back the clock and gets this team some wins.
