The New York Giants have been pretty aggressive this offseason in rebuilding their quarterback room, revamping their trenches, and bringing in some studs to fix the secondary. But they’ve also been quietly stringing together a lot of moves at one of the more overlooked positions: linebacker.
They re-signed Ty Summers. They brought in Chris Board. They added Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles. And they’ve already got Bobby Okereke, Darius Muasau, and Micah McFadden in the mix. The linebacker room is filling up fast—and now it looks like they’re eyeing another potential addition.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, inside linebackers coach John Egorugwu was on hand to watch UCLA’s Carson Schwesinger work out at his private pro day this week in Los Angeles. That’s not nothing. In fact, it could be a sign that one of the current starters—namely Bobby Okereke—may not be in New York for the long haul.
UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger had 30 teams — including LB coaches from Dallas, the Chargers, Giants, Saints and Broncos — in attendance for his private pro day today in Los Angeles. He met privately with the LB coaches for Dallas, the Giants and Saints. He did position drills,…

Could Carson Schwesinger be the end of the Bobby Okereke experiment in NY?
Carl Schwesinger held a private workout in Los Angeles that attracted 30 NFL teams, but only three sent their inside linebackers coaches for a private meeting—including the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and the G-Men. That alone should raise eyebrows. It’s not a casual meet-and-greet when your position coach is sitting down with a potential Day 2 draft target.
The interest is warranted. Schwesinger might not have been a household name entering last season, but the former walk-on exploded in 2024 with an All-American campaign and became one of the most productive linebackers in college football.
He’s a fast, instinctive defender with real sideline-to-sideline range and standout awareness in coverage. He’ll need to bulk up and improve his ability to shed blocks, but the athletic profile is there. For a Giants team that’s already made multiple moves at linebacker, this kind of attention feels like more than just a standard scouting trip.
Especially when you consider Bobby Okereke’s contract situation.
The soon-to-be 29-year-old is entering Year 3 of a four-year, $40 million deal. If the Giants cut him before June 1, they’d save just over $500,000 this year while eating nearly $14 million in dead cap. A post-June 1 designation, however, would free up $6 million in 2025 and another $9 million in 2026, spreading the dead money out over two years (per Over the Cap). It’s a steep price either way, but with the linebacker room getting crowded, it’s not off the table.
None of this guarantees a change is coming of course. But with the group growing deeper and a potential Day 2 pick being vetted this closely... where there's smoke, there's fire. And if the G-Men do end up targeting Schwesinger in April’s draft, it could mark the beginning of the end for Okereke.
