I'm getting some deja vu...

After the New York Jets stunned the NFL world by trading two franchise cornerstones during Tuesday's trade deadline, it saw questions resurfaced regarding Dexter Lawrence's future with the New York Giants. As much as fans love him, the three-time Pro Bowler is emerging as a popular trade candidate this offseason.

Gang Green was able to land a 2027 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick from Dallas for Quinnen Williams, and Lawrence was arguably better. So when Tiki Barber was asked on WFAN if he would do the same deal for Sexy Dexy, he took a while to answer before admitting he wouldn't do it.

Unlike the former Giants fan favorite, Evan Roberts admitted he would make that trade without any hesitation. That sort of premium draft capital could alter the future of the franchise as we know it, especially since Big Blue has a surplus of glaring needs on both sides of this completely putrid roster.

It's an incredibly difficult question to consider, but those picks could potentially help the 2-7 G-Men more in the long run than their 27-year-old superstar who is clearly growing disgruntled.

Since he has yet to truly enter his prime, the former Clemson standout could net the Giants multiple first-round picks in return. And if Joe Schoen (or whoever else is operating as GM) is offered such a package, it would be impossible to refuse, even with how dominant Lawrence is.

The name of the game for the Giants right now is building out this roster around first-round rookie Jaxson Dart, who has a real shot to be named Offensive Rookie of the Year. Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo are great building blocks, but both will miss the remainder of the season.

But even once they are healthy, the job doesn't end there. Wan'Dale Robinson could end up leaving this offseason, and even if the fourth-year breakout stays in New York, the G-Men are desperate for additional weapons for Dart, including an alpha WR2 to complement Nabers.

It's likely this could end up being a top receiver prospect like Ohio State's Carnell Tate or Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, who the Giants would have to select in the top 10 of the 2026 Draft. If this is the case, the additional draft capital could be what takes an already exciting offense to the next level.

As for the 2019 first-round pick, he made the Odell Beckham Jr. trade a complete victory for Big Blue, but his days in New York are coming to an end. The Giants are still not close enough to contendership and Brian Burns has out-played him this year, so why not see if a team's willing to break the bank?
