There’s no more important position in sports than quarterback. Shortstops had their moment, but QBs saw a couple of ground balls and said, “Hold my beer.” As such, the New York Giants are firmly in the "we must do everything to protect Jaxson Dart" camp moving forward.
And that means investing heavily in the offensive line. Because who protects the most important player in sports? The big boys up front. That’s why there’s no stone a team won’t turn over to find the best ones at doing exactly that. And the Giants are no exception.
Big Blue has invested heavily in the line this offseason. Between free agent additions, re-signings, and draft picks, it’s clear new head coach John Harbaugh is all about keeping Dart upright. But why stop there? Immediately after the 2026 Draft wrapped up on Saturday, the undrafted free agency market exploded, and the G-Men were right in the middle of it.
To no one’s surprise, Big Blue took fliers on position groups that have struggled in recent years -- kicker, defensive line, secondary, and offensive line -- which led them to Kutztown’s offensive tackle, Ryan Schernecke, who’s one of the more interesting UDFAs they signed.
Ryan Schernecke gives Giants an offensive lineman lottery ticket worth watching
Schernecke is huge. He stands 6-foot-7 and weighs around 320 pounds. The 2026 class didn't have too many mammoth-sized prospects, which makes him stick out. But don't mistake his size for being slow and unathletic. In fact, it's very much the opposite.
The Hatboro, PA native scored an impressive 8.59 Relative Athletic Score, placing him 227th out of more than 1,600 OT prospects in the past 40 years:
Ryan Schernecke is a OT prospect in the 2026 draft class. He scored a 8.59 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 227 out of 1606 OT from 1987 to 2026.https://t.co/tfidQh1mxD pic.twitter.com/Xf6v742BJz

He signed a three-year, $3.135 million deal, and ESPN’s Jordan Raanan was quick to share the guaranteed money details: $35,000 signing bonus and a $247,500 base salary fully guaranteed. That’s a lot of money to throw at a UDFA, but it also suggests there’s real interest in what he can bring to camp.
Schernecke put together a ridiculous run at Kutztown. He was a Gene Upshaw Award finalist (best lineman in DII) and finished fifth, with the accolades stacking up across the board -- AP All-America Second Team, AFCA All-America Second Team, D2CCA All-America Second Team, D2CCA All-Super Region 1 First Team, and All-PSAC East First Team.
He’s still very much a raw prospect, but there’s a lot to like here.
Also, the Giants never added another running back this offseason, and Schernecke does have a two-yard rushing touchdown on his resume... so I’m not saying Patrick Ricard at fullback and Schernecke hitting the hole from the backfield in the redzone, but if it happened, I'm not saying I'd buy all the way in, but my CVV is 123. Cam Skatte-who, am I right?
