Giants’ Monday night disaster delivers harsh reality check for Mike Kafka

The New York Giants entered their Week 13 Monday Night Football showdown against the New England Patriots at 2-10. To no surprise, they left the game 2-11. Another lost season for Big Blue and even more questions about what the management and coaching staff will look like next year.

This was a game where, before you even blinked, the Giants were down 17. Rookie standout Jaxson Dart was back under center, but even that couldn't give this team any juice. When the score hit triple zeroes, it was a 33-15 win for the Pats, but it was never that close. The Giants got hit in the mouth and never punched back (unless it was after the whistle).

There were a lot of losers to come out of this one, but as Bleacher Report states in its article, there were none bigger than interim head coach Mike Kafka. When you get your butts kicked in primetime as the GMen did, everyone is going to look at who has the headset on, and in this case, it's even more true.

Mike Kafka's audition is proving he's not ready to be the man in charge

When Brian Daboll was fired, Kafka was supposed to be a breath of fresh air. To Kafka's credit, the offense really hasn't missed a beat. Even without Dart, Jameis was awesome in his starts, and they kept scoring points. A lot of the issues we saw for the first half of the season, however, still remain under Kafka.

The defense, even after firing Shane Bowen, is a disaster. The special teams unit put on an all-time bad showing in Week 13, and the Giants earned their seventh straight loss. If anything, this stint with Kafka shows he is just a good offensive mind. He's not the CEO type that's needed with a head coach.

We can talk about the fact that he can't get Abdul Carter to show up on time, but the biggest blip came just before halftime in the Patriots game. Down 20, on your own 40, with a quarterback who can run, and you punt? He should have been relieved of his duties in the locker room. The teams have nothing to play for, and they still played scared. That falls on the guy in charge.

If Kafka isn't named the head coach going forward, we very well may be able to tell the exact moment that decision was made.
