The New York Giants aren't completely parting ways with the old regime after firing head coach Brian Daboll and retaining GM Joe Schoen. For better or worse, Schoen will be in charge of finding the next coach who can get the most out of Jaxson Dart and this young core.

With Dart installed, fans will likely be begging for an offensive-minded coach who could get things turned around. With past experience under his belt, look for former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski to get some buzz that links him to this job.

Stefanski, who was let go by the Browns after a 5-12 season in 2025, is expected to garner some head coach interest from teams like the Giants and Tennessee Titans. While the promise of a former Coach of the Year is enticing, Stefanski's stock as a coach might be based more on what he has done years ago.

The Giants need to target some new blood and avoid giving a coach like Stefanski, who crashed and burned in Cleveland, the chance to get his hands all over Dart and possibly set him back a few years.

Giants need to avoid Kevin Stefanski as next head coach after failed Browns stint

Stefanski getting the moribund Browns to the playoffs twice is quite an accomplishment, but his pixie dust has all but run out in the last few years. Stefanski has won just eight games in the last two seasons, many of which came when the Browns were eliminated from playoff contention.

Stefanski may consider himself lucky to have those eight wins, as he had one of the best defenses in the league on the other side of the field. Stefanski is a quarterback guy, right? Why did Baker Mayfield not take off until he left? Why were Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders drafted?

The Deshaun Watson made things much harder on Stefanski than they needed to be, and that is indisputable. However, Stefanski was almost assuredly consulted on the trade, so he can't be absolved of all the blame. Stefanski was part of the brain trust that drafted Dillon Gabriel and Sheduer Sanders.

Stefanski would be better off as either an offensive coordinator or taking a year off. Jumping right back into the head coaching ranks after some very tough years to end his tenure in Cleveland could make it even tougher for the Giants to get off the mat.
