Well, it turns out surviving Sunday was only half the battle.
Head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen spent roster-cut day cleaning house, with former draft picks Evan Neal and Jalin Hyatt among the biggest names shown the door. Now comes the fun part: watching the New York Giants try to sneak some of the guys they cut back into the building.
New York can build out a 16-man practice squad, with the potential for an additional player through the NFL’s International Player Pathway program. More importantly, the Giants own the No. 5 waiver priority, giving Schoen an early shot at plenty of intriguing players who didn’t survive cut day from their respective teams.
Of course, there’s also some unfinished business with their own guys. Wide receiver Dalen Cambre, pass rusher Trace Ford, offensive lineman Ryan Schernecke, and running back Damon Bankston are among the names who could find their way back to East Rutherford after clearing waivers due to their youth and upside.
Considering around 1,200 players just got dumped onto the NFL transaction wire at once, things could get interesting real fast, so buckle up.

How does the practice squad work?
The practice squad gives a team 16 extra players to keep around as essentially a secondary roster behind the initial 53-man roster. They can elevate up to two players for any game, but each player can only be called up three times before that team has to sign them to the active roster.
They’re also fair game for the rest of the league, so another team can poach another team's practice squad player and sign them to its own 53-man roster.

Not 24 hours after not making the 53-man roster, the 24-year-old wideout is back on the practice squad after clearing waivers. Big Blue only has five receivers on the initial roster (currently), meaning it won't take much for the former Tennessee star much to get another shot to prove he can stick in the NFL.
Giants' practice squad and waiver wire rumors
Joe Milton, QB
The Dallas Cowboys inexplicably waived backup QB Joe Milton III on Monday. After claiming running back Emari Demercado off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals, they needed to sacrifice a roster spot, so Jerry Jones did what he does best and screwed it up.
Milton was coming off a scorching-hot preseason, but he will not be available on the waiver wire. Big Blue showed interest in trading for the 26-year-old last offseason, but the New England Patriots sent him to Dallas instead. With the former Tennessee standout available for the taking (and the Giants sitting fifth in the waiver priority), they could add a third QB to the active roster and secure an intriguing developmental backup for the long term.
Dalen Cambre, WR/ST
Dalen Cambre feels like one of the most obvious practice squad candidates after getting waived on Sunday. According to Art Stapleton, Cambre fully intends to re-sign with Big Blue if and when he clears waivers, with the expectation that he’ll only leave if another team offers him a spot on its 53-man roster. With only five receivers on the Giants’ initial 53, bringing back the intriguing special teams ace makes all the sense in the world.
Braxton Berrios, WR/ST
Berrios was one of the more surprising cuts on Sunday, but it was almost immediately reported that he would be back with the G-Men for their Week 1 festivities against the Dallas Cowboys. Since he's a vested veteran, he's not subject to the waiver wire, meaning he can re-sign with them whenever. The idea is that they add him to the practice squad and elevate him to the active roster before kickoff.
Braxton Berrios officially re-signed and is on the Giants' P-Squad.
Where former Giants are landing after roster cuts
The New England Patriots have claimed Darius Muasau (LB) off waivers on Monday. Muasau lost his roster spot to Zaire Barnes, whose special teams value outweighed the value Muasau brought as a backup off-ball linebacker.
To absolutely no one's surprise, the Pats are back at it again with the white vans and signing offensive lineman Jake Kubas to their practice squad. The 26-year-old was released on Sunday after spending the past two seasons in North Jersey. He was a former undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State back in 2024.
Outside linebacker Caleb Murphy is taking his talents to the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad, as reported by Jordan Schultz. The 26-year-old moves from John to Jim Harbaugh in a reunion of sorts. Murphy spent 2024 and part of 2025 with the Bolts. He's a capable special teams player who had a strong training camp with the G-Men before getting cut on Sunday.
Another outside linebacker has been scooped up: Khalid Kareem. The Atlanta Falcons are adding the 28-year-old to the practice squad. With James Pearce Jr. serving an eight-game suspension and Jalon Walker out for the season with a torn ACL, the Dirty Birds are turning over every stone to potentially find some help in the pass-rushing department.
