The New York Giants came into the 2025 NFL offseason with one goal: Find a quarterback. They had three ways to do it: trade for one, draft one, or sign one in free agency. Simple enough, right? Well, here we are on day one of NFL free agency, and the options are vanishing fast.
The Giants already swung and missed on their Matthew Stafford trade attempt. Sam Darnold just signed a 3-year, $100.5 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Justin Fields is heading to the New York Jets. And now, Aaron Rodgers—who the Giants have been rumored to be interested in—is being linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So what the heck are the Giants doing?
Every minute that goes by, it feels like they’re losing a game of quarterback musical chairs because general manager Joe Schoen missed the instructional video on how to play, watching the seats disappear at lightning speed. At this point, if they don’t act fast, they might be left with nothing. So, maybe it's time to pivot entirely and get someone. Anyone... maybe Russell Wilson.
The Giants need to wake up before it’s too late
It was bad enough when Stafford turned them down. Now Darnold and Fields are off the board, and Rodgers could be next. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to have discussions, meaning Pittsburgh could swoop in and take one of the only remaining big-name quarterbacks off the market.
If Rodgers goes to Pittsburgh, the Giants are officially out of high-end veteran options. That would leave them with Wilson, who—like it or not—might be their best remaining move.
At this point, they need to get something done. The market is drying up insanely fast, and the Giants are standing still, not knowing what to do with their hands while other teams are getting their guys.
This entire offseason was supposed to be about fixing the quarterback situation, but so far, all they’ve done is watch other teams take swings while they hesitate. If they’re serious about landing a franchise quarterback, it’s time to go all-in on trading up for the No. 1 overall pick. Because right now, they’re teetering on disaster, and waiting any longer could leave them with nothing.
What is the plan? They need to make a move and make one quick, or else they'll be right back where they started.
