For the first time in a long time, it really felt like the New York Giants gave it their best shot at landing a good quarterback. They met with Matthew Stafford's reps, had contract parameters in place, and were willing to make a serious financial commitment to the 37-year-old.
But at the end of the day, Stafford chose to stay put, finalizing a reworked deal with the Los Angeles Rams, leaving the G-Men out in the cold and back at square one for their quarterback search.
New York is still very open for business when it comes to finding a veteran quarterback, and one name that's been surprisingly coming up is Aaron Rodgers. According to multiple reports, the Giants have had internal discussions about the possibility of acquiring him, and it’s something they're seriously considering.

Rodgers is coming off an iffy season with the New York Jets. After suffering an Achilles injury and missing the entirety of the season before, he just didn't look the same. It's not all that surprising for a 41-year-old, which makes the Giants' interest in him that much more interesting.
With Gang Green exploring other quarterback options this offseason and Rodgers openly stating he wants to play where he's valued, the Giants may have a real shot at bringing him in—if they want to go that route.
Aaron Rodgers is an option for the Giants, but not the only option
To be clear, Rodgers isn’t Plan A for the Giants. He's more of a failsafe plan—a late-game pivot if pretty much every other option doesn’t materialize. The team is reportedly still evaluating the other free agents—Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold, and Justin Fields—as potential additions, and the NFL Draft now figures to be their new first option.
More Giants coverage:
The Giants have the No. 3 overall pick and could look to make a move with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 pick if they want full control over their QB destiny. They should. Why let chance get in the way?
However, if they strike out on other free-agent targets or aren't able to roll the dice on a rookie quarterback, Rodgers becomes a real option. He loves New York, he’s a fan of Malik Nabers, and there’s even speculation that Davante Adams could be included in the Rodgers-to-Giants package (when is he not included), giving the Giants a legitimate offensive duo to pair alongside Nabers.
Rodgers showed legitimate, concerning regression last year. He's never been known as the rainbows and sunshine locker-room guy, and he typically demands to bring his friends along for the ride. There's only one question that remains: Do the Giants think he's worth the potential headache?
It's about as obvious as it gets: New York needs a quarterback. They’ve played this seemingly endless game of musical chairs before, and they can’t afford to be left without a seat when the music stops as they have before. Rodgers might not be the first chair—maybe not even their second, third, or fourth—but he’s a chair worth considering at the very least, especially if the alternatives flop.
Whether fans want him or not remains to be seen, but he is, in theory, a body the Giants can throw under center who could deliver a watchable product on the field and it's been a minute since that's been the case for Big Blue.
