Giants roster cuts wipe out Jaxson Dart’s Ole Miss connection before it began

It’s not always what you know, but who you know. And in the case of New York Giants undrafted receiver Juice Wells, it was the latter. Wells came to the Big Apple by way of Ole Miss, where his quarterback for the past three years just so happened to be Giants first-round pick, Jaxson Dart.

Unfortunately, that connection wasn’t enough to keep him on the roster. As first reported by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the G-Men are waiving Wells after a late push in camp. He reportedly “finished the summer strong,” but the finish line came early.

Wells hauled in four catches on eight targets this preseason for just 24 yards, with a long of 11. That doesn’t move the needle, especially in a receiver room getting more crowded by the day. In the end, his familiarity with Dart only took him so far. It might be enough to earn a practice squad spot. But that’s about it.

Juice Wells couldn’t turn Ole Miss connection into a roster spot

Wells was always going to be a long shot. He had decent college numbers: 1,518 career receiving yards, 13 touchdowns, and a 15.3 yards per catch average across three SEC seasons. He averaged nearly 20 yards per reception in 2024 at Ole Miss, but in the preseason, he showed he’s not exactly multifaceted.

Coming out of college, the 24-year-old wasn’t pegged as a world-beater. He lacked burst out of routes, didn’t have a refined route tree, and his ball-tracking skills left plenty to be desired. He wasn’t the Ole Miss receiver Hotty Toddy fans would’ve wanted Dart to link up with (looking at you, Tre Harris), but the Giants didn’t get the chance to draft him.

So, they settled for the probably-next-best thing after the draft ended.

Still, he had some upside. Big Blue gave him a $234K salary guarantee as an undrafted free agent, essentially a full-year practice squad salary. That’s not nothing. Add in the built-in chemistry with Dart, and it felt like there was at least a path to the 53-man. But it never really gained traction.

Any chance of the Dart-to-Wells Rebels connection carrying over to Sundays is officially off the table. For now. Mississippi fans and New York alike will have to wait and see if the college tandem ever gets to share the field again. Until then, it’s a long road ahead for Juice Wells.
