Russell Wilson’s next move might somehow top his Banana Ball stint

The Russ Bus might not be outta gas just yet.

It turns out, Banana Ball was just the beginning of Russell Wilson’s coming-to-terms-with-not-playing-football crash out. The former New York Giants quarterback, for all of three games, apparently played well enough on Sunday to catch the attention of Big Blue’s little brother, the New York Jets.

And after seeing who the J-E-T-S have tried under center over the past couple of years (Justin Fields, Brady Cook, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, Trevor Siemian), can you really blame them for taking a look at Russ?

According to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, Gang Green hosted Mr. Unlimited for a visit and are considering him as a legitimate backup option behind Geno Smith. If we’re being honest, this feels very much like Geno wanting his buddy from their Seattle days together more than any sort of roster battle.

Especially after they drafted Clemson QB Cade Klubnik in the fourth round of the 2026 Draft. The 22-year-old rookie would almost assuredly get a shot well before Wilson does -- if he even makes the team.

Russell Wilson to the Jets would be the most Jets outcome possible

The last time the league saw DangeRuss as a starter came in Week 3 last year against the Kansas City Chiefs. Down 13, late in the fourth quarter, and in the red area, Russ couldn't even give his receivers a chance to make a play.

Three throwaways through the end zone and a four-yard quarterback run all but sealed his fate. They lost that game, and he was benched the next day for rookie sensation Jaxson Dart.

He went 0-3 as the starter for Big Blue, throwing for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. “Let Russ cook” looks a lot more like Russ is cooked. And he’s looked that way for years.

Smith and Wilson spent two years together in the Pacific Northwest before Russ was traded to the Denver Broncos. It was there that the decline really became obvious, turning him from a 10-time Pro Bowler and automatic Hall of Famer into a journeyman who makes guest appearances with the Savannah Bananas.

So why not burn a roster spot on a 37-year-old with seemingly nothing left in the tank when they could add someone who might actually help them climb out of the AFC East basement? But sometimes, when your starting quarterback just wants to reunite with the fellas, logic doesn’t always win out.

This is the same team that passed on trading for Pro Bowl receiver Jerry Jeudy because the owner’s son didn’t like his Madden rating. The math is mathing.
