Ever since Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending ACL tear, it's been no secret that the New York Giants are looking to add to their wide receiver room. In the 22-year-old's absence, Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey are the main wideouts, and it's becoming clear a move needs to be made before the trade deadline.
Players such as DJ Moore, Jakobi Meyers, and Christian Kirk have been linked to the G-Men, but a more realistic — albeit less exciting — trade target has emerged. While CBS' Sports Cody Benjamin pitched trades he'd like to see go down before the deadline, he suggested Big Blue make a run at New Orleans Saints receiver Rashid Shaheed.
Just two weeks ago, Shaheed torched the Big Blue's secondary for a career-long 87-yard touchdown, and he could soon be Jaxson Dart's newest weapon in blue and white. The first-round rookie quarterback has the arm talent, and the 27-year-old could be a perfect deep threat in New York.
Rashid Shaheed is the perfect trade acquisition for the Giants
Following a pivotal domination of the Eagles, the Giants are sitting at 2-4—and have a prime opportunity to make a move. Hyatt's days in New York are numbered, so Shaheed could slot in and provide more vertical production in an offense that loves to air out the football.
In six starts for the Saints, the speedster from Weber State has caught 26 passes for 316 yards and two scores. He has more receiving yards than guys like Nico Collins, Ladd McConkey, and A.J. Brown.
However, the fourth-year wideout is entering a contract year, so trading decent draft capital for a potential rental would be an interesting decision, especially when 2026 is a fantastic receiver class and no guarantee Shaheed will re-sign.
The Giants will likely be picking top 10-15 in the 2026 NFL Draft, and additional receiver options are fruitful. Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon, and Carnell Tate are the big three, but players like Denzel Boston, Chris Brazell II, and several others could be available later on.
Like Benjamin said, New York definitely needs to add to the receiver room, but Shaheed would be relegated to Hyatt's role when Nabers returns next season, and that's if he's lucky. The Giants' focus this offseason should be retaining Robinson, who is in the midst of a contract year of his own.
The name of the game for the Giants is doing whatever you can to get the most out of Dart, and if last Thursday night was any indication, the 22-year-old has star potential written all over him. Nabers needs a running mate, so Shaheed is an addition that makes sense, but perhaps a cheaper or longer-term option is more logical.
