Giants would hang up instantly on Cowboys trade call to fix self-inflicted mess

The New York Giants didn’t overhaul their quarterback room just to gift-wrap insurance plans for the Dallas Cowboys. That much should be obvious. But apparently not to everyone.

In a new piece over at The Landry Hat, Jerry Trotta floated the idea of the Cowboys calling up the G-Men and swinging a deal for Jameis Winston. It came from a good place. And Trotta’s reasoning made sense... in theory. But in reality, the G-Men aren’t fielding calls from Big D, or anyone else for that matter. They’re certainly not helping clean up a mess that Jerry Jones made himself.

This all stems from Cowboys backup QB Joe Milton putting together a couple of rough preseason outings and Dallas realizing it might need a veteran to save the day if Dak Prescott ever goes down. It’s a problem. No one’s denying that. But it's not New York's, and the idea that the solution lives in East Rutherford is wishful thinking at best.

Giants wouldn’t trade Jameis Winston to Dallas if Jerry Jones threw in the yacht

The proposed offer was a 2026 sixth-rounder for Winston. And if that call ever came in, it wouldn’t get past the first ring. While the offer itself is likely exactly what the 31-year-old would fetch, it's Big Blue's stance that would table talks instantly.

When speaking to the media after Tuesday's practice, assistant general manager Brandon Brown was asked directly whether Famous Jameis could be on the move, and his response left zero doubt:

“I appreciate that people are interested, but Jameis is a New York Giant.”

Case closed. Nothing to see here. Move along. Maybe next time.

Even if Winston ends up QB3 when it's all said and done, it’s still more valuable to keep him around than it is to entertain a back-pat day trade with a division rival. The Giants aren’t exactly drowning in drama-free veterans who make the locker room better just by walking in. And Winston has done that literally all summer long.

He’s clicked with everyone, mentored Jaxson Dart, stabilized the second team, and ripped enough big-time throws to remind people there’s still juice in the tank. None of that gets wiped away because Dallas is desperate.

If anything, not legitimately addressing the backup QB position this offseason is just another misstep in an endless series of missteps by Dallas' 82-year-old erratic owner. His way of handling business this offseason can only be described as chaotic. Seriously, it's been a masterclass in dysfunction.

So sure, general manager Joe Schoen could potentially move Winston. It’s physically possible. But not to Dallas. The Cowboys will have to clean up their QB situation on their own... which Jerry Jones will ultimately screw up. Why even try to save them from the embarrassment?

Brown made it crystal clear that Winston is going nowhere. Perhaps Dallas should look elsewhere.
