Giants’ youth movement gets dinged for something out of their control

It's not hyperbole to imply that the New York Giants are home to one of the most intriguing young nuclei the NFL has to offer. Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, Malik Nabers, Arvell Reese, and Abdul Carter are just the tip of the iceberg when there is youth and upside all across this Giants roster.

The only thing that was holding this Giants team back was coaching, and they now have that with John Harbaugh. On paper, the future should be incredibly bright in the Big Apple, but at this point, we should know better than to raise our expectations, especially since they haven't been met in a while.

However, not everyone is sold on the long-term outlook of New York's youth revolution. ESPN's Aaron Schatz, Seth Walder, Louis Riddick, and Ben Solak did a "future power rankings" where they ranked all 32 teams based on their expectations between 2027 and 2029, and Big Blue got dinged up pretty badly.

The New York Giants' young core is being docked points for a silly reason

The Giants came in 22nd place and last in the NFC East. That feels incredibly low given Jayden Daniels is practically the only reason to feel optimistic about the Commanders. And the Cowboys have talent, but their timeline isn't super long since Dak Prescott is already well into his 30s. But the reasoning for their concern came from a familiar red flag: injuries.

"As exciting as the upside is for Dart, Nabers and RB Cam Skattebo, their availability worries me," Riddick wrote. "Nabers is coming off a significant knee injury, Skattebo is returning from a significant lower leg injury, and Dart has to modify his play style by reducing the number of hits he absorbs.

It's a valid point to make. Nabers is coming off of a season-ending ACL tear, Dart's concussion issues are unfortunately more present than ever, and Skattebo is coming off a gruesome lower-leg injury and seems to be looking more comfortable and like himself by the day.

But for all of those injury concerns, you can't deny that Big Blue does have a promising long-term outlook. Yes, a lot boils down to whether or not this holy trinity (and the rest of the roster) is able to stay healthy, but such is the case with every team here. You don't know when the injury bug will strike.

We've hardly seen Dart play with a fully healthy offense around him, and the unit has much more talent than it did a season ago. His star WR is looking ready for Week 1 too, so as long as they get healthy and stay healthy, the pieces are in place for the Giants' young core to outperform this ranking.
