NY Giants facing devastating Andrew Thomas news with latest injury update
You've got to be kidding. Late in the action between the NY Giants and Cincinnati Bengals, standout left tackle Andrew Thomas was clearly in a ton of pain and discomfort with a foot injury. He was seen hobbling around, which was a terrible sign.
Now, the Giants could be without him for the rest of the season? According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Thomas is in Charlotte meeting with Dr. Robert Anderson, who is well known around the NFL as a foot specialist/expert.
Following his MRI on Monday, Thomas may potentially have to undergo surgery. If that proves to be the case, he'll be lost for the rest of the season. The hits keep coming for Brian Daboll:
NY Giants LT Andrew Thomas may have to undergo season-ending surgery on his foot
Jordan Schultz added that Thomas is 'likely' out for the season too, which is deflating. Thomas struggled a bit against the Bengals on Sunday night, but no one can argue with the fact that he's one of the most important players on this team. If he indeed is lost for the rest of 2024, it's a massive blow, period.
The depth for the offensive line isn't ideal either. With Thomas on the sidelines, will Daboll go with Joshua Ezeudu as his new left tackle? Will former first-round pick Evan Neal be given another shot to prove he can get the job done, but this time at LT instead of right tackle?
Joe Schoen could try and find someone via free agency or sign someone off a practice squad, but who knows what he's thinking there. What we do know is that Thomas at minimum is going to miss significant time and we indeed may not see him out on the field until 2025. You've got to feel for him, especially after he missed so much time with a hamstring injury in 2023.
