The NY Giants are one of the worst teams in the NFL after a 2-8 start to the 2024 season. While the roster itself isn't unwatchable, poor quarterback play from Daniel Jones has been the biggest on-field reason that New York has found itself so down in the dumps this season.

The Giants need to figure out which of the top quarterback prospects available to them in the 2025 NFL Draft can get this ship sorted out as soon as possible. Two of them seem to be separating themselves from the rest of the pack early on in the cycle.

Miami's Cam Ward may win the Heisman Trophy due to his gaudy statistical output. While many have Ward as the first quarterback off the board this draft season, the Giants might be willing to zig at a time when everyone else is zagging to get their next star.

In the most recent mock draft from Sporting News, the Giants are eschewing Ward in favor of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After Deion Sanders hinted he would prevent his son from going to a franchise he does not approve of, the Giants are taking a risk by drafting him.

Sanders, learning under former Giants coach Pat Shurmur in college, is capable of handling a very complex playbook thanks to his football smarts and tremendous accuracy. His downfield accuracy has taken a major step forward this season, which has produced more wins for the Buffaloes.

Sanders doesn't have the arm strength or playmaking out of structure that Ward has, but he may be the best quarterback in this class when it comes to dropping back in the pocket and surveying the field. That skill will make his transition to the NFL as smooth as can be.

Sanders' biggest issue is holding onto the ball for too long, which has been exacerbated by a generally subpar offensive line. Without elite athleticism and an average arm in terms of raw verticality down the field, there are some who question just how high Sanders' ceiling will be in the pros.

Sanders has some questions about his leadership and the media circus that will follow him, but there is no doubt that this kid can spin it. The Jones era is coming to an end, and Sanders could create a huge shift in how this offense operates.
