Assuming that veteran receiver Odell Beckham Jr. still wants to catch touchdowns in a New York Giants uniform this season, he should make sure his Xbox is plugged in.
Beckham, who previously played for the Giants from 2014-18, has repeatedly suggested he wants to return to New York. Malik Nabers recently endorsed such a move, and Giants management didn’t rule out the possibility.
However, the 33-year-old Beckham remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, and ESPN’s Matt Miller just gave the Giants a reason to keep things that way.
In a pre-draft notebook published on Friday, Miller shared that he believes teams will hold off on taking receivers in the first round. Ohio State’s Carnell Tate and USC’s Makai Lemon are both projected top-20 picks.
Although the Giants only have one first-round pick, Miller’s comments create the impression that at least one extremely talented receiver could drop to the Giants at No. 37.
Which receivers could the Giants take in the 2026 NFL Draft?
Miller specifically named Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson, Indiana’s Omar Cooper Jr., and Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion as receivers that teams could potentially wait on drafting.
Regardless of whether the Giants have an opportunity to take any of those three or have to move to the tier below them, the bottom line remains the same: there is no reason to sign Beckham.
The Giants need receivers who can immediately compete for snaps and emerge as a reliable target for Jaxson Dart. Beckham missed the entire 2025 season and turns 34 in November.
None of this is anything personal against Beckham. He had a memorable five-year run with the Giants and will likely be inducted into the club’s Ring of Honor after his eventual retirement.
However, Beckham wouldn’t help the team now. Almost every player they’ve signed this offseason, from tight end Isaiah Likely to punter Jordan Stout, is expected to be a Day 1 contributor as either a full-time starter or in a rotational role.
Beckham, on the other hand, would presumably come off the bench and take snaps away from younger players.
If the Giants still want to add a veteran receiver, then they’re far better off signing someone like Jauan Jennings or DeAndre Hopkins. At least both of them played last year, with Hopkins suiting up for John Harbaugh and the Ravens.
Meanwhile, any fans hoping to see Beckham in a Giants uniform one more time should remember that YouTube and TikTok exist.
