“We'll have to see throughout the weekend if he does make the roster... we have a pretty good idea in all honesty, but we’re not ready to make that announcement." That's what New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh said about Odell Beckham Jr. following Big Blue's 23-6 shellacking of the NY Jets in Friday night's preseason finale.
Well, the secret is officially out. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Beckham made the Giants’ initial 53-man roster, completing the most exciting homecoming the league has seen in a minute.
The 33-year-old knew what he was signing up for when he returned to East Rutherford on a one-year deal earlier in the offseason. There would be no roster spot handed to him because of what he did here a decade ago, and after spending the past few months fighting for one, he officially earned it.

Beckham spent most of the early portion of camp working with the second- and third-team offense, with his place in a crowded receiver room looking questionable at best.
Even OBJ acknowledged the possibility that things wouldn’t work out, telling reporters he was willing to “go out on my sword either way it goes.” For a reunion Giants fans have wanted seemingly forever, there was a very real chance it was going to last all of three months.
Then Calvin Austin III tore his ACL and ended up on season-ending IR, opening up a roster spot at the worst possible cost. Around the same time, Beckham started playing his best football of the summer.
Harbaugh said as much during the final week of camp, and Beckham carried that momentum into Friday night’s finale against the NY Jets. He caught three passes for 53 yards on six targets and showed he could still create separation against NFL defensive backs and get open.
There was even a flash of the old OBJ on a deep ball from Jameis Winston. Beckham reached 20.54 mph while blowing past the defense, only for Winston to put the ball just too far out in front of him on what could’ve been a 73-yard touchdown.
For someone who hasn't played a snap since December 8, 2024, and started the summer needing to prove his body could still hold up, Odell answered about as many questions as the Giants could’ve reasonably thrown at him.
That’s ultimately why his spot on the 53 means more than keeping a franchise legend around for nostalgia’s sake. Nobody should expect vintage OBJ to take the field in 2026, nor do the G-Men need him to. They need someone who can still get open and give Jaxson Dart another option when his number is called.
And selfishly, it’s just going to be pretty freaking cool seeing No. 3 or 13 or whatever jersey number he chooses run out of the tunnel at MetLife Stadium wearing Giants blue again. Surreal.
Beckham showed up at MetLife Stadium on Friday wearing sparkling red Wizard of Oz-inspired cleats because there’s no place like home. Apparently, all he had to do was follow the Big Blue brick road.
