The Saquon Barkley era with the NY Giants has officially come to an end, but in the worst way possible. For a while now, Giants Nation as a whole has been nervous beyond belief that No. 26 could end up leaving town to suit up for a rival.

We now know that's going to happen. According to insider Jordan Schultz, Barkley has agreed to terms on a new deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley was receiving interest from other teams, but he has decided to ink with the enemy. Why, Saquon, why?

Giants general manager Joe Schoen was hesitant all the way back to last year in giving Barkley the kind of money he was looking for. In the end, the Eagles decided to break the bank for the two-time Pro Bowler, something NY wasn't willing to do.

According to Adam Schefter, Barkley's new deal with the Eagles is a three-year contract for $37.75 million, but it could balloon to $46.75 million - he also has $26 million in guaranteed money coming his way. Again, this is way more than the Giants were willing to put on the table for him.

A former No. 2 overall pick with the Giants, Barkley was one of the best running backs in the league when he was fully healthy. However a torn ACL and ankle injuries, including the one that cost him three games in 2023, were a major problem for him.

In 2022, he posted a career-high 1,312 yards and returned to the Pro Bowl for the first time since his rookie season. However, he took a bit of a step back in '23. The Giants decided not to franchise tag him and the expectation was that Barkley would go back to Schoen with his best offer.

Schoen wants to improve the team and invest his money elsewhere, which was made evident by him already agreeing with offensive guard Jon Runyan Jr. to a $30 million deal. Barkley leaving East Rutherford always felt likely, but him joining the Eagles feels like a slap in the face, no doubt.
