While there were some positives for the NY Giants following their 28-10 preseason loss to the Houston Texans, there were also way too many negatives. Brian Daboll didn't look too pleased following the final whistle and understandably so.

There's been plenty of negative talk about Daniel Jones, but he wasn't the only one to have a rough showing. In this piece, we take a look at three players who did themselves no favors leading up to cut day being around the corner. Matter of fact, following the contest vs. Houston, we think they have no business coming close to making the 53-man roster:

3 NY Giants who should be cut following the loss to Houston

LB Darrian Beavers

There has been little luck for inside linebacker Darrian Beavers since he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. That summer, Beavers was a camp and preseason standout, but a torn ACL cost him his rookie season. Last year, he appeared in two games. Beavers was hoping to make a jump this year, but his showing vs. Houston was a huge disappointment. Beavers was on the field for 41 snaps, but he looked rough from start to finish. He took home a PFF grade of 29.2, the lowest of any NY defensive player. Rough.

WR John Jiles

It was always a longshot for John Jiles to make the roster, but he's a big-bodied wideout who could have made an impact on special teams. However, his showing against Houston pretty much closed any hope he'll be around for Week 1. In the fourth quarter, Jiles caught a short pass from Tommy DeVito and made his way downfield. However, he was totally careless with the ball in his hands and allowed a Texans defensive back to just rip it for a turnover. This was totally inexcusable and something that likely had Daboll livid:

CB Tre Hawkins/CB Tre Herndon

Due to the lack of cornerback depth, Tre Hawkins is likely going to be safe for the 53-man roster. But honestly, he should consider himself lucky. Hawkins looked rough against Houston, consistently getting picked on. Fans were letting him have it on social media late in the contest. He was a camp standout in 2023, but his play his rookie season never lived up to the hype.

Hawkins received some time with the 1s in the joint practice with the Jets due to Nick McCloud getting burned multiple times. Tre Herndon is another DB who didn't play well despite seeing 20 snaps against the Texans. Both Hawkins and Herndon, along with McCloud, continue to remind Joe Schen that some veteran help is needed for the secondary.
