Just like that, the preseason has come to a close for the NY Giants. Unfortunately for Brian Daboll, things didn't go the way he would have hoped, as there are some pretty big concerns on both sides of the ball leading up to Week 1 and following the loss to the Jets.

In this piece, we have our winners and losers from the action. Getting us started is a young lineman who had a night to forget:

Loser: LT Joshua Ezeudu

What else does Daboll need to see when it comes to Joshua Ezeudu? The Giants continue to trot him out at left tackle, hoping he can serve as a reliable backup for Andrew Thomas. However, the more action he sees on the outside, the worse he looks. Ezeudu was beat consistently off the edge against the Jets, giving up multiple sacks. He never gave Tommy DeVito a chance to scan the field. End this madness and move Ezeudu to the interior on the line. Sheesh.

Loser: CB Darnay Holmes

When the Giants decided to bring back cornerback Darnay Holmes, the hope was that he could serve as a veteran presence and make plays on special teams. However, he is quite literally playing himself on the roster. Holmes has showcased major tackling issues, with multiple missed ones being posted against the Jets. On a long Israel Abanikanda touchdown run, Holmes appeared to have the RB wrapped up, but let him get away. This is inexcusable and Darrian Beavers let a lot of people down on this play too. Both guys won't be around for the season-opener.

Winner: DT Elijah Chatman

Confused? Yes, Elijah Chatman didn't play a single snap against the Jets, but that's the point. With Daboll deciding to keep the undrafted free agent defensive tackle on the sidelines, it all but confirms that Chatman has a 53-man roster spot locked up. He has been incredible throughout the summer and now he's going to have a job in the NFL with the G-Men. Chatman is an unreal story - he's surely an easy kid to root for as well.

Winner: OLB Benton Whitley

No one helped themselves more in potentially trying to make the 53-man roster than outside linebacker Benton Whitley. The pass-rusher looked quite solid, albeit against the Jets backups. At MetLife, Whitley was consistently giving opposing linemen issues. He has a quick motor and a sack in the third quarter came after he didn't give up on a play and kept fighting - Whitley added another 0.5 sack later in the quarter. He may still be a bit of an underdog to stick around once Week 1 gets here, but he surely gave Daboll and Co. something to think about.

Loser: OL John Michael Schmitz

This is yet another gut punch for Daboll in terms of injury concerns. Center John Michael Schmitz was the only offensive line starter to take the field for this one, but his night ended in rough fashion. On a 4th-down run from Dante Miller, Schmitz got his leg rolled up on. He was clearly in some pain/discomfort as he gingerly made his way off the field. It was announced that he was dealing with an ankle injury and that he was ruled out for the rest of the action. Schmitz, who previously was dealing with a shoulder injury, can't afford to miss practice time ahead of Week 1. We can only hope this won't keep him off the field vs. Minnesota.

Loser: OT Evan Neal

This was the first Evan Neal showing since he suffered his ankle injury last campaign, but he was too inconsistent once again. Early on, Neal looked strong in run blocking, but then he got absolutely roasted by Takk McKinnley on a sack of DeVito. That's been the major issue for Neal throughout his young career. To make matters worse, he left the game early with an ankle injury. Not only is he inconsistent, but he just can't stay healthy either. Frustration continues to surround the former No. 7 overall pick.
