3. Starting tight end

The tight end position has been one of the talks of the Giants offseason. The Giants learned earlier this offseason that veteran Darren Waller would be retiring from the league, which meant an opportunity for a new TE to step up in Daboll's offense. The Giants drafted Penn State tight end Theo Johnson as Waller's replacement and a long-term option for the G-Men, but he will have some competition through the remainder of the preseason.

The 2024 fourth-rounder will continue to compete with Daniel Bellinger, who we can expect to be the Week 1 starter. While both Johnson and Bellinger played against the Lions, the Penn State tight end did not make an entry into the box score, logging only 12 snaps. Johnson's beginning of training camp was delayed by an injury that initially landed him on the PUP list, but his debut was worth the wait.

While Johnson has league-ready potential and can eventually be a starter in the league long term, Bellinger will likely start in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. Still, it will be fun for Daboll and the Giants to evaluate their options and watch Bellinger, Johnson, Chris Manhertz, Lawrence Cager, and Jack Stoll in the tight end competition over the next few weeks.
