The long wait is finally over, as the New York Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. The Giants are looking to win a season-opener for just the third time since 2016 and are looking for much better results from their disastrous Week 1 performance last season.
The G-Men entered the 2023 season with high expectations after making the playoffs in 2022 and after an embarrassing 40-0 loss in their season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, it was unfortunately a sign of things to come. Despite losing some key players during this past offseason, this Big Blue squad should have some much better upgrades on their roster than they had last season. In particular, these five players come to mind:
5. WR Malik Nabers over Isaiah Hodgins
When New York geared up for their Week 1 matchup last season, there was no clear No. 1 wide receiver on their roster. Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins were hoping to emerge as playmakers. Now, though, Hodgins is on the practice squad and there's a new playmaker in town to help out Daniel Jones.
Big Blue's new top wideout will be rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who the Giants drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in this year's draft. After not seeing a Giants wide receiver put up a 1,000-yard season since 2018, Nabers may be able to finally break that streak. He's coming off his best collegiate season at LSU in 2023 where he had over 1,500 receiving yards and scored 14 touchdowns, which were all career highs.
Nabers also had a great training camp and looked impressive during his preseason action, which is something the Giants hope will translate in the regular season. He'll have his first opportunity to dazzle against the Vikings and fans can't wait to see what he gets done.
