It’s almost time for the NFL Draft and the rumors are really starting to heat up for the NY Giants. This is looking to be the biggest draft the Giants have had in a long time and it’s certainly the biggest in the Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll era. Indeed, April 25 can’t come soon enough.
The biggest debate is what the Giants should do with the No. 6 overall pick. Will Schoen trade up for a new quarterback, stay at No. 6, or trade down? We can't wait to find out, but a lot of things are up in the air for this team. Having said that, here are our five bold predictions for what's to come:
5. Darren Waller retires on draft night
Last year, the Giants traded a third-round pick for Darren Waller and while he had flashes during his first year with Big Blue, he battled injuries and inconsistent play. Waller had 52 catches for 552 yards and a touchdown. This is not what people envisioned for him when the deal was first announced.
Waller has stated he’s strongly considering retirement throughout the offseason and if he is still undecided, it probably tells you everything you need to know. The Giants probably have to look for a tight end at some point. It would be nice to have the veteran back, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
So, how about this for a bold prediction - Waller will announce his retirement right before things get underway on draft night. This will be a bit of a bummer, but at least Schoen will know that he might have to go after a new TE during Days or Day 3 of the draft.
