4. TE Jack Stoll/Chris Manhertz
As Darren Waller’s status for the 2024 season continues to be unknown, the Giants went ahead and stacked up at the tight end position. They brought back Lawrence Cager, who has been dependable as a backup tight end for the Giants the last few seasons. They also drafted Theo Johnson in the fourth round back in April, who will likely be paired with Daniel Bellinger as the top two tight ends on the team.
The two players to really look at on the bubble here are the ones the Giants brought in during free agency in Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz. Both have veteran experience and both can be extra blocking tight ends if needed. But with a group that has six; technically seven if you do currently count Waller on the team, at the spot, it’s a little crowded.
Tyree Jackson seems like a practice squad candidate and Cager might be battling Stoll and Manhertz to stay on the team, but his experience with the current regime plays in his favor. Even if Waller doesn’t return, it would be hard pressed to see the Giants carrying four, or even five tight ends on the roster with Johnson, Bellinger and Cager as the odds-on favorites to make the team. One of the two, maybe even both, could be possible cuts.
