3. QB J.J. McCarthy
In the past few days, reports have been flying that the Giants are trying to trade up and get their hands on one of the big four quarterbacks. Specifically, it seems like the G-Men are targeting Drake Maye while having J.J. McCarthy as more of a backup option. With that said, if the Giants do end up moving up for McCarthy, they'd be making a big mistake.
Unlike any other prospect in this draft, McCarthy has garnered incredible interest in the last few months, which has catapulted him into the Top-5 pick conversation. After an astonishing career at Michigan, scouts have debated whether his play will translate to the next level. Drawing comparisons to players like Brock Purdy and Drew Brees, McCarthy is undoubtedly capable of turning into a quality quarterback.
However, if the Giants trade up from No. 6, they should do everything possible to get one of the big three quarterbacks outside of McCarthy. There is a reason McCarthy was once viewed as a Day 2 pick, and his upside pales in comparison to that of Maye. If Schoen decides to pull the trigger and make a move, he might as well shoot for the stars and see if Maye can live up to his sky-high potential.
