Another former NY Giants lineman thriving elsewhere can't even be made up

This shows how much coaching makes a difference.

You've got to just laugh at this point. What is about NY Giants offensive linemen struggling in East Rutherford and then finding success with a new team? Is it coaching? No disrespect to former OL coach Bobby Johnson, now with the Commanders, but that appears to be the case.

This offseason, swing tackle Matt Peart left the G-Men to sign with the Denver Broncos. Peart had his fair share of struggles for the Giants, but the potential is clearly there for the 6-7, 315-pounder. This summer, Peart has been turning heads due to his strong play with Denver, including a strong showing in the preseason Week 2 win over the Packers. That came after a great performance in the preseason opener too:

Matt Peart is well on his way to making the Denver Broncos 53-man roster

Peart has indeed been a beast this summer, posting a PFF grade of 86.7. He has been on the field for 57 snaps, not allowing a single sack or pressure. From 2020-2023, Peart suited up for the Giants, appearing in 43 games. Due to various injuries across the line, his number was called for seven starts.

He was never a standout by any means, but something is obviously clicking for him in Denver. Could it actually be that he's simply improving now that he's no longer learning from Johnson? It wouldn't be the first time, as interior lineman Jon Feliciano struggled with NY, but then went on to ball out in 2023 with the 49ers.

With Johnson now with the Commanders, Carmen Bricillo is the new OL coach for the Giants and he's been making countless headlines over the past month too. Against the Lions and Texans in preseason action, the offensive line showcased big-time improvements.

The hope is that Bricillo can save the career of Evan Neal. Neal, the former No. 7 overall pick, has been working his way back from an ankle injury, but his workload is set to start increasing. Bricillo and him should be tied at the hip leading up to Week 1.

As for Peart, he's now making a serious push to make the 53-man roster. This wasn't an expectation for him when he first signed, but he has flourished and no question turned Sean Payton's head. We're happy for him, but come on, we also would have much rather preferred for him to look this way in a Big Blue jersey instead.
