It's an exciting day for the NY Giants getting their offseason program started, but there's of course plenty of concern over Saquon Barkley and Dexter Lawrence not being on hand. However, Brian Daboll isn't on the list of folks worried about the stars not being there.
As you might have been able to guess, Daboll was asked about the two standouts missing in action. Daboll, in his typical fashion, was calm, cool and collected. Daboll revealed that he's been in contact with both players, but he's going to keep those conversations private for now.
Brian Daboll isn't worried about Saquon Barkley and Dexter Lawrence missing the offseason program
Daboll has been in contact with the two, obviously letting them know that he's still thinking about them. Both Lawrence and Barkley are two of the best players on this team, but they're not happy about their contracts.
Barkley was placed on the non-exclusive franchise tag, but he didn't sign his tender last week. As for Lawrence, he's ready for general manager Joe Schoen to put a monster offer on the table. He didn't report to New Jersey this week, with it being reported that he's not happy that no such offer has been presented.
With Barkley, he turned down a $12-13 million deal from Big Blue last fall, and Schoen took a new offer off the table earlier this offseason. No. 26 doesn't want to play the 2023 campaign on the tag, but it's up in the air if his reps and Schoen will be able to get on the same page or not. The sooner the Giants can make Lawrence and Barkley happy, the better. Schoen has worked plenty of magic over the past few months, but more work is needed.
The last thing anyone wants to see is Lawrence and Barkley unhappy leading up to training camp. However, Coach Dabes isn't too worried about things. It looks like he's confident everything will work out in the end.
