Bucs release rising cornerback the Giants should absolutely make a move for

Joe Schoen needs to put a waiver claim in for this kid, no doubt.

One of the biggest concerns for the NY Giants leading up to the showdown with the Minnesota Vikings has to be the lack of quality talent at cornerback. Deonte Banks is locked in as your CB1 and he's ready to follow up his impressive rookie campaign with another strong year in 2024. Behind him, though, there's plenty to be desired.

Leading up to the preseason, Cor'Dale Flott was the favorite to win the CB2 job, but a quad injury had kept him off the field for a little while. Nick McCloud has stepped in, but he struggled staying consistent. What about Tre Hawkins? Yeah, he's also got inconsistency written all over him. The Giants need to make a move here and Tampa Bay may have just done them a big favor.

Leading up to cut day, the Bucs released second-year cornerback Keenan Isaac. The 6-3, 190-pounder isn't a Pro Bowler or anything, but he's coming off a great three games with Tampa Bay in August and now he's looking for a new home. Might he be able to make an impact for the G-Men if Joe Schoen works his magic?

The Giants need to try and land young CB Keenan Isaac off waivers

With the Bucs deciding to move on from him, something that many are calling a brutal decision for the staff, he's going to be available for a team to claim him off waivers. This isn't cut and dry where Schoen can simply call his agent and offer him a sweet deal.

Instead, the Giants have to throw their name into the ring and see if other teams ahead of them in the waiver order pass on him or not. Last season for the Bucs, Isaac appeared in just two games. Throughout the preseason, however, he looked fantastic and posted an interception in the showdown vs. the Bengals.

PFF gave him 91.2 grade for his work this preseason, which is nothing to sniff at. Yes, how you play in the preseason doesn't mean much once September arrives, but the Giants desperately need added depth and playmakers at corner. The guys on the outside for the secondary, outside of Banks, have done next to nothing to instill confidence in their play.

The Giants swung and missed on trying to bring in veteran talent, but adding players who have been cut elsewhere is the next best option for them right now. Isaac is someone Schoen indeed should try and bring to town.
