Cowboys end Dak Prescott-Giants rumors by giving him a historic extension
The dream is over before it could even start building some momentum. Ahead of the season-opener for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott was about to start his 2024 campaign on the last year of his contract. Prescott, one of the top signal-callers in the NFC, was already being linked to teams in free agency for 2025.
We can go ahead and stop any speculation. Before the Cowboys were getting ready to take the field in Week 1 to take on the Cleveland Browns, news dropped that Prescott had agreed to terms on a historic extension with the Cowboys. That's right, No. 4 will enter the new year playing on a four-year, $240 million deal. Wow:
Dak Prescott's record deal with the Cowboys ends Giants speculation once and for all
With Presoctt taking home $60 million per year, it's a new record in the NFL. You had a feeling Prescott was going to get paid sooner rather than later, especially after so many quarterbacks landed new deals this offseason.
Unfortunately for any NY Giants fans who were already looking forward to free agency next winter, you can go ahead and cross Prescott off your wishlist. Daniel Jones is potentially entering his final season with New York. He's in the second year of his four-year extension, though the expectation is the Giants will part ways with him if he doesn't perform well.
In the first campaign of his new deal, Jones looked rough when healthy, tossing for two touchdowns and six interceptions. Then against the Las Vegas Raiders, he suffered a torn ACL. He was limited to only six games in '23.
Countless people have already written off Jones and they're ready to see who Joe Schoen will go after next winter or spring. The NFL Draft will be fun to watch, with Carson Beck, Cam Ward and others being potential targets. As for free agency? Prescott will be a no-go.
