DeAndre Hopkins may be with the Tennessee Titans, but that doesn't mean he wasn't paying attention to the big news that dropped on Thursday. As you all know, that breaking news was that the NY Giants acquired former first-round pick Isaiah Simmons from the Cardinals, D-Hop's former team.
The biggest shock of it all, though, was that general manager Joe Schoen only had to give up a seventh-round pick in the '24 NFL Draft to land the safety/linebacker. Hopkins himself couldn't believe it and he even provided a little bit of a dig at his former employers on Twitter - the post has since been taken down.
The Giants got a steal in landing Isaiah Simmons from the Cardinals
Yup, Hopkins had to laugh at the Cardinals for basically gifting Simmons to the Giants. Hey, we're not going to complain about this whatsoever, as Big Blue Nation is fired up to see what Simmons will be able to do working under the direction of defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
It's unknown if Simmons will play linebacker or safety for NY, but a hybrid role, similar to what we saw out of Landon Collins with the Giants last year, could be a solid fit for him too. Regardless, NY is bringing in a young man with loads of potential.
It's been argued for a while now that Simmons hasn't been able to play his best football because of a lack of great coaching. That will no longer be the case now that he'll be with Martindake and the reigning Coach of the Year in Brian Daboll.
Simmons is the definition of a low-risk, high-reward get for the Giants and Schoen. It's not going to be a surprise to see him flourish for this defense. Hopkins knows he can be a big-time player, and he can't believe it cost NY close to nothing to get him.
