The decision has come in from Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider: he's going in a different direction. This week, the two top candidates for Pete Carroll's replacement seemed to beNY Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Ravens assistant Mike Macdonald.
On Wednesday, breaking news arrived and it's that the Seahawks are rolling with Macdonald to take over the team. With that, Kafka, for now, is set to stay on Brian Daboll's staff. However, with the Ravens now looking for a new DC, this could open the door for one of Daboll's top targets to stay with Baltimore:
The Seahawks hiring Mike Macdonald as their new head coach could impact the Giants
Thus far this offseason, the Giants have had two interviews with Dennard Wilson, the Ravens defensive backs coach. Multiple reports have suggested that Wilson, who is also receiving plenty of interest around the NFL, could be Daboll's No. 1 choice to take over his defense.
However, with Macdonald on his way to the Pacific Northwest, this has now opened the door for the Ravens to potentially give Wilson their defensive coordinator job. Over at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., general manager Joe Schoen said the G-Men are hoping to have a new DC in place by the end of the week.
With a decision coming soon, we're now going to have to wait and see what Baltimore does with Wilson. Wilson has plenty of coaching experience and he's regarded as one of the top DBs coaches/passing-game coordinators in the league.
On one side of things, it's a positive that Daboll doesn't have to worry about bringing in a new OC, but there's definitely worry that Wilson could stay put in the AFC North after all. With Bobby Babich landing the Bills DC role and Shane Bowen expected to stay with Tennessee too, plenty of names are coming off the board for Daboll. We can only hope Wilson isn't added to the list in the coming days.
