The NY Giants experienced some nightmare drafts during Dave Gettleman's reign as general manager. The 2021 draft -- when the Giants took Kadarius Toney in the first round -- is right up there with the worst of them.
By the start of the regular season, second-round pick Azeez Ojulari might be the last of the six members left standing. After their preseason win over the Panthers on Friday, the Giants waived 2021 sixth-round pick Rodarius Williams.
Giants release former draft pick Rodarius Williams
Williams was a healthy scratch for the game and never seemed to win over defensive coordinator Wink Martintale so this news is hardly surprising. He bounced around the game day roster and practice squad over his two seasons in East Rutherford.
Injuries unfortunately tell the story of Williams' stint with the Giants. His rookie year ended after five games due to a torn ACL and he landed on injured reserve for an elongated stretch last year and played just three games. He amassed 15 tackles and an interception in his eight appearances.
Williams has since been claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers. His release sheds yet another black eye on what looks more and more like Gettleman's worst draft with the organization, which says a lot.
Aaron Rodgers to make Jets preseason debut vs the Giants
It's expected that the Giants' first-stringers will see extended run in the final preseason game. That logic likely applies to most teams, as Brian Costello of the New York Post reported Rodgers will make his Jets preseason debut this week against Big Blue.
Zach Wilson started each of the Jets' first three exhibitions. Rodgers didn't play in either game, so this report suggests Robert Saleh and company want the 39-year-old to get some game action before they place him in bubble wrap.
The Jets still haven't nailed down their starting offensive line. It'll be interesting to see if they can protect the four-time MVP against the Giants, because Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and the entire New York defensive line is surely licking their chops at the thought of putting Rodgers on the ground.
