The worst nightmare is coming true for the NY Giants in their game against the Minnesota Vikings. As of this writing, the Giants are trailing big to the Vikings. Not only that, but QB Daniel Jones has looked nothing like a $160 million quarterback. Jones, fully healthy from his torn ACL, was supposed to make a statement to start the campaign.

Instead, he's been awful. There's no other way to put it - No. 8 has been rough to watch and Sam Darnold is fully outplaying him. In the first half, Jones' statline was 8-of-16 for 55 yards and no touchdowns. Jones has missed a couple of easy throws too and he nearly tossed an interception in the first quarter too. As you might have been able to guess, fans are letting him have it.

Daniel Jones has been brutal to watch for the Giants in the season-opener

There are no excuses for Jones in this one. The offensive line has looked strong and they're giving him enough time to scan the field and make quality throws. Instead, Jones has short-armed some of those balls, which is frustrating. He's making the easy tosses, yeah, but we haven't seen anything special out of him at all.

How much will Brian Daboll put up with? There are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of more tweets like these. Everyone has lost patience with Jones. In the preseason against the Texans, rust was used as an excuse for why he looked inconsistent with the ball in his hands. The Giants were taking more downfield shots too.

However, there's nothing that can be said to defend his play vs. Minnesota. It's just Week 1 of the 2024 regular season and already folks are counting down the days for the NFL Draft next April. Jones is fighting for his NY career and he's not delivering. If he keeps playing like this, there will be no doubt that Joe Schoen will race to cut him after the season ends.
