There are going to be some MAJOR changes for the NY Giants this offseason, there's no doubt about that. After going 9-7-1 last year, the G-Men and Brian Daboll are a rough 2-8 through 10 games this campaign. How in the world is that possible?
To make matters worse, the Giants offense currently ranks dead last in the NFL with its 11.8 points per game. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is a big reason for that, as his unit has lacked creativity all season. According to reporter Tony Pauline, Kafka's terrible showing in '23 could result in him being out the door this offseason. Oh, and Wink Martindale could be gone as well.
Wink Martindale and Mike Kafka aren't expected to return next season for the Giants
"What is expected is the release of assistant coaches and the coordinators. Few expect defensive coordinator Wink Martindale or offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to be retained. People from Kafka’s team confide in me that they don’t expect the former college quarterback to survive."Tony Pauline
The Kafka news doesn't come as a complete shock, as the Big Blue offense indeed has looked terrible this year. It doesn't help that this team has had to try and overcome so many injuries, of course including the torn ACL suffered by franchise signal-caller Daniel Jones.
However, even when Jones was healthy, this offense wasn't able to do much of anything. Outside of one brilliant half against the Arizona Cardinals, the Giants have been a nightmare to watch on O throughout the campaign.
With Martindale, his defensive unit has had some stretches of brilliant play, but things have been rough the past two weeks. The Giants gave up 30 points to the Raiders two weeks ago and then Dak Prescott recorded five total touchdowns in a 49-17 Dallas win last Sunday.
That's just not good enough from Wink and Co. Daboll and Martindale appeared to be having a disagreement at halftime too, which raised plenty of eyebrows. All in all, there's going to be plenty of roster changes for the Giants in 2024. This could also lead to both Kafka and Martindale looking for other jobs.
