Unfortunately for NY Giants fans, in addition to the team being 4-8 on the season, there's also been a lot of drama being brought up of late. In particular, word around town is that Brian Daboll and his assistant coaches, including Wink Martindale, straight up don't like each other.
Daboll has come out and said that things are perfectly fine between him and Wink. This all started when FOX's Jay Glazer reported that there's tension between the two and Martindale could be on his way out before the campaign comes to a close. On Friday, Martindale slammed that report too:
Wink Martindale believes his future is with the NY Giants
Not only did Martindale say that things are just fine between him and Daboll, but he doubled down on wanting to stick with the G-Men for the long haul. Martindale said last season that he wanted to be with the Giants until he retires, and it looks like he's feeling the same way.
However, there's always the chance that Martindale is offered a head coaching job - that could lead to him leaving East Rutherford. With that said, the idea of Martindale getting fired before Week 17 arrives feels incredibly silly and Daboll would surely tick off a lot of people in the locker room if that happened.
Despite some lean weeks this fall, the Giants defense has looked fantastic at times, especially in the past two showdowns. New York has taken down Washington and New England in that time, with the defense playing a massive role in the victories.
In the win over the Commanders, Martindale's defense forced five turnovers, while they held New England to only seven points. The Giants are hoping to post another upset win on Monday night, with the defense needed to deliver. There will be a lot of eyes on Martindale, but he's going to have the full support of Coach Dabes for this one and that's not going to change soon.
