Giants Rumors: Will any of these 3 NY players get traded before camp?
With the way NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen operates, you never know what he might pull off leading up to Week 1. With limited space salary cap wise, though, signing a big-name free agent is out of the question right now.
However, could Schoen end up trading away a standout player in the coming weeks? That's what Bleacher Report has on its mind, as they've dropped a piece mentioning the team's top trade candidates before training camp gets here.
The names? Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and Leonard Williams. It goes without saying, but Big Blue supporters don't want to see any of these guys leave town this summer.
The NY Giants would be wise to figure things out with Saquon Barkley as soon as possible
The biggest name here is obviously Barkley. As Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report also wrote, come on, there's just no way Schoen would move Barkley. However, with the way contract talks have gone this offseason, Knox isn't ready to shut that door:
"Let's be honest. The Giants probably aren't moving star running back Saquon Barkley—not with him playing an integral offensive role, not after giving him the franchise tag, and certainly not with a long-term deal still possible. Still, if a deal doesn't appear imminent ahead of the July 17 deadline to extend franchise-tagged players, we can't completely rule out the possibility. "
With Shepard, he's on a one-year deal with the G-Men. He's been unable to stay healthy the past two seasons, but fans everywhere are hoping the veteran wideout can not only stay close to 100 percent this fall and winter, but also that he can make a huge difference for the offense. Keep him... don't trade him, Mr. Schoen.
Lastly, Williams is definitely an intriguing candidate. His cap hit of more than $32 million is something Schoen wants off the books, but that won't happen unless his contract can be restructured. That doesn't seem probable at this point. A trade? Doubtful.
It's tough to rule out anything with Schoen, especially with the Giants hoping to make even more noise in the NFC this campaign. Having said that, seeing any of these three players traded in the coming weeks - don't count on it.
