On Tuesday, the veterans are all set to report to training camp for the NY Giants. Then on Wednesday morning, Day 1 of camp will arrive and fans can't wait to see what this team will be able to get done leading up to the preseason and Week 1.
However, star running back Saquon Barkley won't be in town after he and the front office weren't able to come to terms on a contract extension. This is going to be a major topic of conversation from start to finish throughout camp.
However, veteran playmaker Xavier McKinney has shown Barkley a ton of public support despite the issues between him and the front office. While appearing on Good Morning Football, McKinney doubled down on that support and let everyone know that no one inside of the locker room is mad at No. 26:
Xavier McKinney knows how important Saquon Barkley is to the Giants
Those were some passionate words from McKinney, who also added in the video above that he's focused on being consistent this upcoming season and not trying to play into the notion that this is going to be a 'breakout' year for him.
McKinney missed a large chunk of the season last year after he suffered a scary accident while riding an ATV in Mexico. He's ready to keep putting that behind him, though, as the talented safety should be in line for a strong campaign.
However, there's no question that things will feel a bit weird for the G-Men as a whole without Barkley out on the field with them later this week. Barkley is easily one of the most popular and respected figures on the squad.
While Barkley has left the door open to sit out Week 1 due to being placed on the franchise tag, the hope is that he'll report later this summer and then help the G-Men try and take down Dallas. Whatever he decides, McKinney and others will have his back no matter what.
