At this point, just about everyone knows the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen were trying to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft to bring in a new quarterback. The G-Men had their eyes on a Daniel Jones replacement, but nothing got done.

Right before the draft, multiple reports dropped saying Schoen was trying to move up to the No. 3 overall spot to land Drake Maye. However, thanks to Hard Knocks, we're able to see that New England was more than happy to stand pat and that NY never really got close to making something happen:

The Giants and Patriots were never really close to a pre-draft trade

As you can see in the video above, Schoen hopped on the horn with New England executive Eliot Wolf to see what it would take for the Giants to move up. Wolf didn't hesitate in saying the Pats were pretty happy staying at No. 3 and bringing in a new quarterback.

Wolf left the door open for a deal if Schoen blew him out of the water with an unreal offer, but the Giants weren't going to overpay with draft capital either. While Brian Daboll liked the idea of Jayden Daniels making his way to East Rutherford, Maye seemed like the most realistic target all along.

Caleb Williams ended up going No. 1 overall to Chicago, with Daniels being taken by Washington and Maye of course getting drafted by New England. A nice consolation prize for the G-Men and Schoen was Malik Nabers at No. 6 overall, with the speedster expected to break things open for the offense.

Still, plenty of fans find themselves asking, 'what could have been' had Schoen pulled off a miracle to move up to No. 3 and grab Maye. Those same fans should be able to sleep well at night knowing Nabers has turned heads this offseason, while New England's new QB1 has struggled to impress in recent months.
