Kayvon Thibodeaux has Commanders fans livid over his Giants rivalry comment

It's been an interesting few days of NY Giants pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux speaking to the media. First, the former first-round pick made headlines when he had an awkward interaction with ESPN's Jordan Raanan, refusing to answer a question about how disappointing the pass-rush was vs. Minnesota.

Now, Thibodeaux is making even more headlines leading up to the Week 2 battle with the Washington Commanders. Outside of his locker, Thibodeaux was asked about his upcoming opponent. While he was respectful of QB Jayden Daniels, he turned heads when he said that Washington really isn't a rival. Wait, what?

Giants star Kayvon Thibodeaux claims the Commanders aren't really a rival

"I would say Washington in particular, they're a rival - they're not really a rival, but what would you call it, in conference? In our same division there we go. They are in our division so it's always a great game. We see them twice a year, so I'm excited. Jayden Daniels is a great quarterback. He's from Cali. Grew up knowing him, grew up with him, so I understand he's a great player and I'm excited to go against him. "

While the Giants have bigger and more passionate rivalries going up against the Eagles and Cowboys, Thibodeaux just can't forget about the Commanders here either. There have been some epic showdowns between the two NFC East sides throughout history. This is probably why so many people are ripping him for his take.

That's just one example of Washington fans letting Thibodeaux have it. Now, there's extra pressure on him to deliver in Week 2, especially after he was a non-factor in the season-opener vs. the Vikes. It should be noted, though, that Thibodeaux has owned the Washington offensive line early on in his career.

Last season, he finished with three sacks against the Commanders. During his rookie year, his breakout game came at FedEx Field, highlighted by his forced fumble and score that led to a Giants win. More of the same will be needed from Thibodeaux when these two teams meet in the second game of the year. If he struggles, he's going to want to turn off his notifications on social media - Commanders supporters everywhere will race to get shots in on him.
