Originally, while NY Giants wideout Malik Nabers suffered a concussion in the Thursday Night Football Loss to the Dallas Cowboys, it felt like he'd be able to go through the concussion protocol with no issues and be ready for Week 5. Now, though, it's not looking like that's going to be the case.

On Wednesday, the No. 6 overall pick sat out practice because Brian Daboll said he's in the 'early stages' of the protocol. With New York traveling to Seattle soon, the hope was he could get a limited session in, but that didn't happen. Fast forward to Thursday morning, and ESPN beat writer Jordan Raanan is saying it's a 'longshot' that No. 1 will be able to get himself ready:

Malik Nabers being a 'longshot' to play in Week 5 is awful news for the Giants

This is just a bummer. No one wanted to see Nabers have to go through injury adversity this early in his career, but this just shows the G-Men can't catch a break. With Nabers potentially set to miss this game, it's only going to make things much more difficult for Daniel Jones and Co. going up against the Seahawks at Lumen Field.

We saw last year just how sluggish the offense looked without a true No. 1 wideout. Nabers has filled that void for Daboll and done so in remarkable fashion. He leads the NFL with 35 receptions and he's coming off yet another huge showing. In the loss to Dallas, he posted 12 receptions for 115 yards.

The week before, Nabers caught two touchdowns in the upset win on the road over the Cleveland Browns. He's been close to perfect for New York and fans have loved seeing him play with so much swagger too. With NY at 1-3 on the season, they're already facing a must-win game to try and save the campaign.

It's not official yet, but it's going to be a surprise if Nabers plays, which is not how a lot of people were feeling earlier in the week. The playmaker took to social media to say he was doing fine, while Darius Slayton said Nabers was in good spirits and that he'd be alright moving forward. He's just not progressing well enough, which could force him to miss his first pro game not long after making his debut.
