Right when the season ended, Brian Daboll of the NY Giants was being looked at as the biggest villain in the NFC East. The Wink Martindale rumors were flying and a report from Pat Leonard made it seem like Daboll had completely fractured the locker room. Nick Sirianni has stepped in and said ,'hold my beer.'

On Tuesday morning, head-turning news arrived that the Eagles and Sirianni had fired offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. With Johnson not returning for 2024, he's sure to find a new job sooner rather than later. However, this decision from Philly is not going over well, with members of Sirianni's staff unhappy with Johnson being the scapegoat for the team having its meltdown in '23.

Eagles firing Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator was a huge surprise

We already knew the Eagles were going to need a new defensive coordinator, with Sean Desai being fired over the weekend and Matt Patricia not returning either. However, the Johnson update felt like it came out of nowhere. He's well respected all over town and people loved how the Philly offense looked for most of the year.

However, the Eagles were a nightmare to watch to close out the season, losing six out of their last seven games - this included the disheartening Wild Card Round loss to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that defeat, Sirianni's seat was red hot and the belief was that he could even be fired himself.

That's not happening, as his job is safe for now. With that said, Sirianni seems like he's a bit in panic mode and major changes like Johnson being let go are not going over well inside of the locker room. This is something that has been a key takeaway for the Giants and Daboll this offseason, as he has let go of several assistants.

Some of the same is going on in Philly, but at least what has transpired for Big Blue and Coach Dabes was a bit expected. The Johnson move has caught a lot of people off guard and they're not happy about it at all.
