It's best that all the injuries mounting up for the NY Giants happen now in the preseason, but still, this team keeps getting unlucky in terms of guys getting banged up. You can add offensive guard Jon Runyan Jr. to the growing list.

During the latest practice session ahead of the showdown with the Houston Texans, Runyan left practice early with what's being called an upper body injury. Runyan, the expected starting left guard for the campaign, was in quite a bit of discomfort. His status for the weekend is a bit unknown, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him miss a couple of days.

Brian Daboll was able to welcome back center John Michael Schmitz and right tackle Evan Neal, but seeing Runyan leave practice early is definitely a worry. At this point, it's too early to know if this is something that could turn into a week to week issue, but for now, the hope is this isn't too serious.

In a perfect world, the Giants starting offensive line to take on the Vikings come Sept. 8 will be, from left to right, Andrew Thomas, Runyan, John Michael Schmitz, Greg Van Roten and Jermaine Eluemunor. Eluemunor was previously the starting RG, but due to Neal's ankle problems, the RT job is his to lose.

Runyan was a touted free agent this offseason, with other teams, including the Jets, looking to land his services. However, Joe Schoen and the front office were able to outbid other organizations and get him to sign on the dotted line.

With how awful the offensive line play was last season, allowing a league worst 85 sacks, the addition of Runyan was celebrated widely by Big Blue supporters. Now, there's some worry about his upper body. Soon enough, Daboll will provide an update on the veteran hoss.
