The NY Giants play their first preseason game against the Detroit Lions and fans are incredibly excited to finally see this new-look squad in action. While guys like Daniel Jones, Dexter Lawrence, and others may not see the field, this is a time for the underdogs of the roster to make their name known ahead of the roster cut deadline.

We still have some time to go until said deadline, but depending on how the preseason goes, this is what the Giants' 53-man roster could look like going into the regular season. Some choices are clear-cut and obvious, but others may surprise you.

NY Giants' 53-man roster ahead of the preseason

Quarterbacks: Daniel Jones and Drew Lock

This was by far the easiest position to lock in. While you could make the argument that it would be worth keeping Tommy DeVito on the roster for injury insurance, it's better to use the extra roster spot elsewhere.

DeVito will likely return to the practice squad where he will be called up if one of Jones or Lock go down, but the New Jersey native can suit up as the emergency QB3 too. As for the other two, Jones is a $160 million quarterback, and Lock is a high-value backup who was recently signed. Jones is going to hope to get his career back on track this season.

Running backs: Devin Singletary, Tyron Tracy Jr. and Dante Miller

This is where the first surprise comes in, as some may be shocked to see Dante Miller make the roster over Eric Gray, the Giants' fifth-round pick from last season. However, Miller has been much more prominent in camp and given how poorly Gray performed last season, mixed with his quiet training camp, it might give Miller the edge.

Regardless of who eventually gets the spot, the one who is cut will no doubt return to the practice squad and potentially return to the roster in the regular season. Devin Singletary is the team's clear-cut starter, as he has the most experience and was simply brought in to be the leader of the room.

A pleasant surprise this offseason has been the emergence of Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was selected in the fifth round of this year's draft. Everyone knew Tracy was an incredibly dynamic weapon in college, but thus far, it has translated incredibly well with the Giants and he seems like the favorite to be the team's RB2 in the regular season.
