NY Giants avoid Drew Lock injury disaster in preseason win over Lions
Last season, it was Daniel Jones who got hurt twice thanks to poor offensive line play. Now, it's new NY Giants quarterback Drew Lock who is being impacted by shaky play up front. The G-Men were able to take down Detroit 14-3 in the preseason opener, but it came at a cost early on.
That's because Lock went down late in the first quarter with a hip injury after taking a pretty rough shot. The G-Men didn't waste any time in saying that Lock was 'questionable' to return to the contest, but his night was over at that point. Thankfully, though, general manager Joe Schoen said on the FOX broadcast that his No. 2 signal-caller is going to be alright:

That's got to be a relief for Schoen, Brian Daboll and Co. You never want to see any kind of injury occur in the preseason, especially to one of your quarterbacks. Luckily, nothing serious happened and if Lock does miss Week 2 of the preseason, it could just be for precautionary reasons.
With all of that said, Lock's Giants debut could not have gone worse. He went 4-of-10 for 17 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Oh, and he had a QB rating of 8.3. The offensive line didn't do him much favors, as the backups had people thinking about the group from 2023 that gave up 85 sacks.
As for some positives, the Giants defense looked solid, with linebacker Dyontae Johnson standing out in the first quarter. Johnson had a sack early on, which is only going to grow his hype. Micah McFadden is the LB2 alongside Bobby Okereke, but Johnson proved he'll be ready to push for that spot. Unfortunately he limped off the field in the second half, so we'll have to wait for more updates there.
On offense, running back Eric Gray had two touchdowns, highlighted by a 48-yard score. On that play, he totally juked Lions defensive back Morice Norris, who posted a cheap shot on him during joint practices. It was sweet revenge for the second-year RB.
Next up for the G-Men is a Week 2 preseason tilt vs. the Texans in Houston. Daniel Jones is expected to see a decent amount of playing time in that one, but you should also get ready to see plenty of Tommy DeVito if Lock decides to sit one out.
